Oh, You’re A Model? Who’s Your Agent, Instagram?

The age of #selfies and reflective mirror shots is overtaking the world of social media. Being a social media marketer myself, I get it. Social media is a fun place to show the world how awesomely dull your life is with pictures of yourself during the morning commute, your bathroom break at work, at home while you’re relaxing, or maybe at the dentist!

As our world becomes increasingly smaller through the internet, the trend of selfies has been a large cornerstone of images shared through different social channels such as Instagram and Facebook. But really, do your followers really need to see a selfie of you every day? More importantly, do they want to?

As an avid Instagram user, I find it annoying to constantly scroll through my feed and just see selfie after selfie (I actually unfollow people who post too many). I get it if you have a cute outfit on or you just got a haircut you want to show it off, but really? Why do we need to see a picture of it every time.

What happened to keeping some things to yourself? The world turned and survived just fine without seeing pictures of your everyday 10 years ago. I must admit I’ve taken selfies before and posted them, but they are usually a big deal. Don’t you think a selfie would be better appreciated and special if it was a picture of your favorite lunch spot with a friend or the view from your favorite sporting arena?

Seriously, Instagram isn’t a modeling service and I don’t think any famous fashion magazines are going to be scouting for the next big thing there. So do us all a favor and cut the selfies to a minimum, show us what adventures you’re on instead. Your friends will secretly thank you when their feed is less selfies and more interesting stories.

    Gosh, isn’t this true… Your intro…
“Social media is a fun place to show the world how awesomely dull your life is with pictures of yourself during the morning commute, your bathroom break at work, at home while you’re relaxing, or maybe at the dentist!” – pretty much sums it up. Why the heck do we feel the need to document every boring detail of our lives? – NO ONE CARES…but wait! People DO care, because they keep on ‘liking’ this stuff…and so it keeps on happening, these mundane pictures keep invading our computer screens!

    I’ll stop ranting now…

    Great post! 🙂
