My Worst Advice: Being Down In The Dumps

\down in the dumpsWhen you are feeling lonely, frustrated, angry, sad, worthless, agitated, depressed, or any other negative feeling that you just can’t seem to shake…it will probably get worse before it gets better.

The reality of life is that sometimes we will like there is no digging out of the great hole that seems to be getting deeper and deeper everyday. But that is all part of challenging yourself, growing into a stronger person, and gaining experience in life.

When you feel like life is suffocating you from every angle look for a safe place. If you try find a “solution” or “fix” things right away you will be overwhelmed. You have to find solitude before you can begin your next journey.

Yes it is our nature to find something to help ourselves but knowing the right place to look for it is important. Maybe you have to search your soul, your friendships, or your daily lifestyle and find something that doesn’t relate to your negative feelings. Making a change in your life elsewhere, could be exactly the distraction you were in need of.


  • Smartphone Renovations: Some small time but effective solutions to your resolution could start with moving ALL of your social media apps on your smartphone to the LAST page on your app screens. Most of us have our social media apps on our home or 2nd screen on our phones. But moving that distraction of everything happening to others could help you with a bit of soul-searching.
  • Back Up: When you are feeling unlike yourself and you are beginning to feel overwhelmed with everything going on around you, take time to yourself. Back up and reassess your social life at the time. There may be a friend that is frustrating you even more and adding fuel to the fire. To help focus on your own health and prevent from ruining a friendship, give yourself some space.
  • Find Your Partner: Whether it is a family member, friend, co-worker, or significant other, it may be a good idea to confide in someone and tell them your feelings. Bottling up everything inside only makes matters worse. So discuss with them your feelings and even if they only listen, having that person on your side take a bit of the weight off your shoulders.
  • Be Patient: When you are feeling down in the dumps or depressed, be patient. It may be hard to be patient when you are frustrated, but be patient with the whole process. Our bodies and minds go through funks here and there, it’s ok. Be patient and let it pass and work on small things.
