When In Doubt, Grab A Beer or Blanket

Screen Shot 2014-09-23 at 7.33.36 PMI’m not someone to come home from work and say, “Man I need a beer”, but I will sometimes elect to grab a blanket and plop on the couch. But sometimes when life is good (or bad) people have a tendency to always gravitate towards alcohol.

Now don’t get me wrong or judge me, I love beer. Seriously my friends and I always check our beers in on Untappd when we’re out together to see who got the latest badge. But sometimes isn’t it ideal to put down the bottle and grab a blanket instead?

Sometimes a bit of self-reflection and relaxation really gets the body and mind going again. When I’ve had a long day at work, sometimes coming home, cuddling up with my pup, and getting my favorite blanket out does the job that no beer or drink could’ve done.

Here are some real benefits to grabbing a blanket:

  • It gives you a great excuse not to get up. “Oh, sorry I just laid down and I’m super comfy!”
  • You can leave your phone in the other room and disconnect. Oh, it’s ringing? Who cares. You know if you get up your spot will no longer be warm. (seriously I hate that)
  • If the blanket is clean you get to sniff in the fresh scent of linen and lavender flower fields. Is that even a real thing?
  • If the blanket isn’t clean, it gives you the heads up, “Hey wash me, I smell like your younger brother’s gym socks!”.
  • Gives you a great excuse to cuddle up with your loved one. Invite them in, they can be part of your club too, only if they know the password. Which leads me to my next point.
  • Make it a sweet tent! Nothing is better than making a sweet tent or fort with your blanket and basking in the glory of how much better your building skills are compared to your 5-year-old self.

Now that you know some full (and awesome) advantages of grabbing a blanket, get out there and start cuddling. But take note sometimes getting rip-roaring drunk is also a great course of action. I can respect both decisions.

But always remember, you can run out of beer, but your blanket will always be waiting. And if you’re going to drink, do it responsibly please. We don’t need anymore deaths or tragedies.

Or you can also resort to the third option and grab both!

Hahaha, well, with the winter approaching I feel like I am actually running out of blankets. I am sleeping under two, and have just one spare. And it is just September…

Great point…but luckily I don’t have that problem as I can probably count at least 20 blankets in my house. I think it’s an addiction. Hopefully you can make it through the winter and still have enough to spare!

buh, never met a person with a USEFUL addiction. I am coffee addicted. Right time to question how is it going to help me through the winter 🙂

I love to cuddle up in a warm brown blanket on the couch to watch TV. My black cat Poe will join me and play happy paws on the blanket for awhile, then lay down. The additional weight of a living creature seems to make me more snuggly. You are right, once you are in the blanket, its really hard to get out of. I haven’t tried it after work, however.

As for alcohol, I’ve discovered Mango rum added to pineapple/banana orange juice. Ummmm.

Yea the warmth from a let always add a bonus advantage. I encourage you to try it after work. It works wonders.

Ooo yum, that just sounds dangerously delicious.

I love this! I have been known to roam through the home goods section of stores not looking at anything but randomly touching everything. The perfect soft blanket makes me stop every time. I have four on the couch, two at the foot of the bed, one on the computer chair, etc. Another great excuse to not move is having a cat curled up on top of you. (Beer is also good…very good!) 🙂

Thank you! Yes home goods is a dangerous place but so great to find a perfect blanket. The more the better! Thanks for reading!

I myself tend to relax with a drink, but a blanket seems like a better idea after reading this. 🙂 I will follow your blog now, and do hope you’ll follow mine back.

First, your title made me laugh, and then your post kept the chuckles coming. That’s saying something, given that I’m not a beer drinker (despite living in a city that is home to many micro-breweries). Love the vibrant color and graphics on your Welcome page!

Haha totally true. I have a blanket that makes me look like a hobo, as it is the color of cat vomit, but is just so SOFT that it makes you look past its improbable color. I wrap myself in it (i vaguely resemble E.T.) and create a perfect cocoon which beats beer anytime.

The way I look at it…as long as the “ugly” blanket makes you feel beautiful…just go with it! 🙂
